The Beginning

This summer I was talking to someone who showed me a truth that changed my understanding of pretty much everything.

It's the fundamental truth of human existence and shockingly simple. So simple in fact it can be expressed in just a few incredible words: There is no you.

It's a truth that seems ridiculous and absurd at first. 'Of course there is a me, I think therefore I am'.

But as I was shown, this philosophical trinket doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Yes, we can be sure thinking exists, but why does this entail an I?

It is an unwarranted act of faith to identify with that thinking.

Fundamentally all that can be known for sure is that perception exists. Perception of sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touch and thoughts.

To identify with thoughts is a mistake.

Thoughts are no more 'you' than the computer screen you are looking at.

However unlike that computer screen, thoughts often identify within themselves.

This is a key realisation, noticing that you are just the awareness of your thoughts and not actually the thing causing them.

That awareness is all that you are, and ultimately all that there is.

There is no duality between you and the world. Accepting this takes a lot of honesty and serious thinking, however ultimately the truth is blindingly obvious at the same time.

If you have not yet had the intellectual courage to question your own religious faith, it's likely that the jump to this realisation would be much harder. After all, there is no soul, no Jesus with magic powers, nothing to put your faith in, only reality as an honest mind sees it.

So see it.

There is no you.

You see-er, only see-ing.

No thinker. Only Thoughts.

No Duality.

All is one and one is all.

Truth.
